Important Notes
- Dress Code in the Islamic Republic of Iran:
- Men are not expected to wear short pants in public.
- Women are obliged to wear long clothes with long sleeves. Hair must be covered, for instance, by a full scarf.
- Customs within the Islamic Republic of Iran:
- Men or women are not supposed to shake hands with the opposite sex. Please avoid embarrassments.
- People are called by their Last Names, e.g., Mr/Dr/Prof or Mrs/Miss/Dr/Prof. It is not customary calling others by their First or Nicknames.
- Pls do not bring into the country any alcoholic products, any books, magazines, CDs, etc that violates Islamic values.
- Precautionary Measures:
- When you stroll alone outside the hotel, please do not carry large amounts of cash or valuables with you. You may deposit your extras at the hotel reception desk.
- You may freely use your camera. However, in places where NO PHOTOGRAPHY signs are posted do take it seriously and avoid possible misunderstandings.
- It is recommended that you change money at the airport, hotel or a bank. For further help you may consult the Symposium Secretariat.
- One USA $ buys approx. 790 Tomans
- One British Pound buys approx. 1130 Tomans
- One Deutsche Mark buys approx. 360 Tomans
- Official currency of Iran is Iranian Rial. Also the Tooman is in common use
- One Tooman is equivalent to 10 Rials.
- For transportation, it is recommended to use cars with TAXI signs.
- You must reconfirm your return flights at least 72 hours before. The Tourist Desk of the Symposium is ready to help in this regard.
- Acquaint yourself with the export regulations, for instance with relation to carrying out carpets, antiques and the like. For further information, you may consult the Tourist Desk.
